The highly-anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop update has finally started rolling out over-the-air (OTA) to "most" Nexus devices, Google officially announced.

The latest version of Google's popular mobile operating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop, made its debut back in mid-October with the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 as its launch vehicles. Ever since, Android fans have been eagerly waiting for the new OS version to start rolling out to existing devices.

The Nexus lineup is typically the first in line to get any new Android update, but this time it took longer than usual. LG announced that its G3 would get Android 5.0 Lollipop this week, Motorola announced that the new OS was headed to its second-generation Moto X and Moto G, yet existing Nexus devices seemed in limbo.

Not too long ago, reports surfaced regarding a Wi-Fi bug found in Android 5.0 Lollipop, which severely affected the battery life of the Nexus 5, as testers had found. At the time, it was believed that this battery drain issue was the reason for the delay in Android 5.0 Lollipop's rollout to existing Nexus devices.

It now seems that Google has overcome all hurdles, as the latest version of its mobile OS is now rolling out to the Nexus family of devices, including the Nexus 5, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (both generations), and the Nexus 10.

"#AndroidLollipop rollout has started and will soon be available on most #Nexus devices. Dessert is served," Google confirmed in a tweet on its Android Twitter account on Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The Android 5.0 Lollipop update will roll out to existing Nexus devices over-the-air (OTA), which means that it may take a few days to reach all devices. OTA updates are gradual and don't hit all devices in the first day of release, but all Nexus owners should get it soon enough.

Those who don't want to wait for the OTA, meanwhile, can also head over to Google's Developer site at this link and check out the factory images that are available for download for Nexus devices. With a little knowledge about flashing, you can manually install the update on your device.

Android 5.0 Lollipop factory images are currently available for the Nexus 5, the Nexus 7 Wi-Fi (both generations), and the Nexus 10. Factory images are not available for the Nexus 4, but the handset will get the update over-the-air. Owners of an LTE Nexus 7, meanwhile, will have to wait a bit longer for the factory images, as they are not yet available for either generation.
