'Mirror's Edge Catalyst' News, Review: Experts Reveal Recommended GPU's At Different Graphics Settings

The first "Mirror's Edge" game was visually breathtaking, and the remake, "Mirror's Edge Catalyst," is equally beautiful, with lots of first person parkour action and intensive graphics. Some gamers have tested how the game would look at different graphics settings, and here is what they found out.

PC Gamer tested "Mirror's Edge Catalyst" on its highest graphics setting, "Hyper," using Intel Core i&-4790K at 4GHz and Nvidia GTX 980 Ti graphics card. The machine runs on 8GB DDR3 RAM, and the video was recorded at 1920x1200 at 60fps.

Gamers Nexus has done more than that, however. They tested the game at 1080p, 1440p, 4K, Ultra and Hyper, and used different GPU's to determine which GPU is best for the game. "The video card benchmark looks at performance scaling between High, Ultra, and "Hyper" settings, and runs the tests for 1080p (Ultra), 1440p (Ultra), and 4K (High), with a splash of 1080p/Hyper tests." Gamers Nexus Editor-in-Chief Steve Burke explained.

Users who prefer 1080p displays and would want to play on Ultra settings should go for at least GTX 960 or AMD R9 380X. Some settings, however, would still need to be downgraded from Ultra to High to maintain high framerates for some parts of the game like intense combat and loading.

Gamers who would want lower settings like High-Medium, but would still want to run the game at 1080p will probably need to look at lower SKU cards like the GTX 950.

For folks who want 1440p at Ultra, the GTX 1070 is the way to go, with the GTX 970 as second choice. The AMD R9 390X gives out acceptable performance but does have slight gameplay issues.

For those who want 4K resolution at High settings, however, it would be difficult to get a good framerate run on just one card. The GTX 1080, the best among all that was tested, only peaked at 50fps on average. It's not a bad number, but Gamer's Nexus reported that it's better to run the 1080 on 4K, but on Medium settings.
