'The Witcher 3' Won't Be Getting The PS4 Pro Treatment; CD Projekt Red To Focus On 'Cyberpunk 2077', 'Gwent'
J RoseCD Projekt Red's critically acclaimed action RPG "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" will not be patched to support the new PlayStation 4 Pro features.
As most of the developers jump into the PS4 Pro bandwagon, the Polish game studio declared that "The Witcher 3" will not be getting the 4K treatment for Sony's new console.
Speaking to Eurogamer, the developer said that the studio is too busy with its upcoming games, "The Witcher" spin-off "Gwent: The Witcher Card Game" and its highly anticipated new IP "Cyberpunk 2077."
"Since we want to fully focus on 'Cyberpunk 2077' and 'Gwent', and converting 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt' from a full HD game into a 4K one [on console] would be too much of a time and resource-consuming process," CD Projekt Red said,"we decided not to release an edition of 'Wild Hunt' supporting the new features of PlayStation Pro."
"The Witcher 3" PC version does support 4K resolution, which makes it look like a simple conversion to the console ports. However, this is not the case, according to Digital Foundry.
"Showing everything at 4K resolution is one half of the problem," Digital Foundry's Tom Morgan said. "You need a good-looking world too, to hold up to scrutiny at 4K."
CD Projekt Red has recently released a "Game of the Year" edition for "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," which includes both "Hearts of Stone" and "Blood and Wine" DLCs.
Other developers have already announced some of their games that will make the jump to 4K on the PS4 Pro, including Naughty Dog's "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" and "The Last of Us: Remastered," and Treyarch's "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3."
The new Sony Playstation 4 Pro, which is said to complement the standard PS4, will be released on Nov. 10 and will cost $399 at launch.
