'Resident Evil 7' Review: Game To Be Scarier Than Ever; What Made It The King Of Horror Games
C. de LacyEver since "Resident Evil 4," the franchise was no longer the same. From the classic survival horror game that provided players with extremely tense atmosphere came an action run and gun oriented gameplay. "Resident Evil 7" promises to change all that.
With the game's producer, Masochika Kawata's recent interview with Yugatech, "Resident Evil 7" is confirmed to be pitting players with multiple enemies, which is surprisingly a surprise for some fans and is as ironic as it sounds.
Starting from "Resident Evil 4," multiple enemies had been a norm and in fact, with older titles in the series, multiple enemies had always been a challenge and at the same time, a standard. It adds tension and excitement with equal fear for the players.
However, just as with "Resident Evil 4, " though it is a golden experience on its own, fans have thought that the game abandoned the actual combination of horror and survival and that means scarcity in resources and major disadvantage from enemies.
While the horror elements are still there, the series almost made players rely on skills and reflexes in a shoot-out, rather than quickly deciding whether to jump through a window or charge head-on like how it was from "Resident Evil 3: Nemesis"
The more recent game, "Resident Evil 6," somewhat suffered slightly in this department as it had aimed higher goals that came with bigger risks. For a couple of reviews including IGN's, the game didn't even nab at least an 8/10, but still managed to be tagged as "Good" somehow.
Fast forward that to the upcoming "Resident Evil 7." Based from the game producer's description, the seventh game in the series will be focusing on escape, immersion and pursuit.
If this rings a bell on anything, a quick game to come in mind would be either "P.T" or some of the older titles like "Silent Hill: Shattered Memories."
While there's definitely some combat with the game, as with the demos suggest and Kawata's statements, the game will feel immersive indeed that players won't actually feel like super-powered soldiers with unreal combat skills, but instead, normal people who are either trapped, being chased or have to hide.
Be sure to stay tuned for more "Resident Evil 7" news and updates.
