The new specs heavy smartphone from Xiaomi, the Mi5, will battle it out today with the Oppo R9, which is marketed as the best selfie camera of 2016.

Which one will you choose?

The Oppo R9 5.5-inch screen is slightly bigger than the Mi5 5's 15-inch display. Both feature full HD display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. However the Oppo R9 has Gorilla Glass 4 support for gloved and wet touch input.

Both include a tweaked version of Android OS. The Oppo R9 has ColorOS 3.0, based on Android 5.1, whilethe Mi 5 runs on Android 6.0, based MIUI v7.0. The Xiaomi phone has Adreno 530 GPU, while the Oppo handset has Mali T860.

The Oppo R9 is powered by a Mediatek Helio P10 chipset with four of its Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.0GHz, the other four at 1.0GHz. Meanhile, the Mi 5 comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset with 1.8 GHz Quad core processor. Its Mi5 Pro edition comes with 2.15 GHz Kryo Quad Core processor.

Oppo offers 64 GB inbuilt storage with 4GB of RAM. It offers microSD card support up to 128GB. Whereas, Xiaomi comes with 32GB and 64GB model in-built storage having 3GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage having 4GB RAM . Mi5 doesn't offer expandable memory feature.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 features a 16MP Sony IMX298 main camera with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus, OIS, dual-LED (dual tone) flash, 1/2.8" sensor size, and 1.12 µm pixel size, and a 4MP front snapper with f/2.0 aperture, 1/3" sensor size, and 2µm pixel size.

Oppo gets interesting in the camera department, where the front shooter actually boasts a higher-res sensor and brighter lens than the rear one. Selfies are highlighted by a 16MP camera mated with an f/2.0 lens with a 78.1-degree field of view. On the back, you have a 13MP sensor behind a 5-element lens with f/2.2 aperture and 80.6-degree FoV.

The Oppo R9 comes with 2850 mAh non-removable battery and VOOC Flash charge feature. Xiaomi, on the other hand, improves its charging speed with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology and 3,000mAh.

While the Oppo R9 seems to have an edge with large screen, a sleeker bezel finish, and a great selfie camera, the Xiaomi Mi 5 can win the market at a more budget-friendly option.
