Windows 8 Release Preview, which is due in the first week of June, is prepping for an overhaul of its core Metro apps, reveals The Verge.
The Verge reported that Microsoft has already incorporated a few updates in the core Windows 8 communications applications, which include improvements of the user interface, incorporation of new features and removal of the "app preview" banner from the top of the application.
Moreover, Microsoft has included some minor updates in the communications apps that include Mail, Calendar, People and Messaging. While the Mail app received a new teal-colored live tile, Calendar got a purple tile, which was green in the Consumer Preview. The People live tile has also built like the one that we see in the Windows phones with an updated grid of contacts names and photos.
Additionally, the Photos app in the Apps section of the Windows Store Preview page, which was been updated on May 15, reveals a nicer and cleaner-looking UI that sports tile-like icons. According to Microsoft, this new Photos app will bring "all of your pictures and home movies together in one place - even if they're on Facebook, Flickr, SkyDrive, or another PC." The new app will also let the user share photos with friends and family without leaving the app and will import photos and videos from a camera.
Along with Photos, other apps like Music and Microsoft Reader have also received some updates. According to Microsoft, the updates have been introduced to "support the latest Windows 8 changes."
The Release Preview version of Windows 8 will also sport multi-monitor setups to make the desktop a more personal experience, improve the efficiency of accessing apps across monitors and allow side-by-side Metro style and desktop apps. The indication of the new feature was made by the Microsoft Developer Network Platform blog on May 16.
The improvement of the Metro apps, however, has not surprised the experts as all these apps came with the "app preview" tag in the previous beta version and were not ready to hit the prime time.
