A major software update, known as the 8.1, has been sent to a few new Tesla vehicles and more will receive the update in coming weeks. CEO Elon Musk announced the 8.1 update stating that it will include upgrades to the electric vehicles' Autopilot feature.

This new update will bring in a lot of missing features in the newer cars. Some of these features will be reportedly limited. For example, Autosteer will work when the vehicles move slowly on clearly-marked highways. The newer Tesla vehicles did not have some of the Autopilot features initially, including automatic lane guidance and emergency braking.

The Tesla 8.1 update is for those electric vehicles that have the enhanced hardware package, made standard by Tesla is October. The hardware has more ultrasonic sensors, cameras and a highly powerful onboard computer. Tesla stated in October that the new system required more validation before the features could be activated.

However, the Tesla 8.1 update doesn't include the "full autonomy" feature that the new generation of Teslas has. It is expected that Tesla will make a "full autonomy" coast-to-coast demonstration by the end of 2017. According to Fortune, the limited missing features in the newer cars could be because of a problem in adapting Autopilot functions to Tesla's imaging system.

Meanwhile, a Tesla Model X owner has sued the electric vehicle maker after his vehicle suddenly accelerated during parking and crashed into his home. The owner Ji Chang Son filed a complaint on Friday at the U.S. District Court in the Central District of California.

"The vehicle spontaneously began to accelerate at full power, jerking forward and crashing through the interior wall of the garage, destroying several wooden support beams in the wall and a steel sewer pipe, among other things, and coming to rest in Plaintiffs' living room," the lawsuit read, reported Reuters.

However, Tesla reportedly conducted a thorough investigation and concluded that the crash was due to Son pressing the accelerator pedal to 100 percent.
