'Overwatch' Winter Wonderland Ends, Diablo Anniversary Celebration Brings More In-Game Features
Rei Lantion"Overwatch" players saw the end of "Winter Wonderland" January 2nd but players are still in for a treat. "Diablo's" 20th anniversary celebration is in full swing and game developer Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed that they've included special bonuses in all their games to commemorate this event. That, of course, includes "Overwatch."
December 31 marked the start of the anniversary celebration. It's been a couple days since and no official word yet as to when the festivities end. "Overwatch" players can expect special in-game sprays, which represent the different "Diablo III" classes, such as Crusader, Demon Hunter, and more, iTech Post reports.
The "Diablo" series is an action, hack-and-slash role-playing dungeon crawler and is arguably one of Blizzard's more successful game titles. The first installment was released December 31, 1996 and "Diablo II" followed soon after, hitting stores mid-2000. The third game went live on the 15th of May 2012, and by May 30 of the same year, the series had sold over 24.8 million copies worldwide.
Meanwhile, Travelers Today also mentions that a new player icon modelled after "The Lord of Terror" himself is part of the special features players can expect. Other games released by Blizzard Entertainment such as "World of Warcraft" and "Heroes of the Storm" can also expect cameos from Diablo himself or other familiar elements from the three games.
"Overwatch's Winter Wonderland" event has left players with Winter Loot Boxes, special skins and brand new game content to enjoy. It even unlocked "Mei's Snowball Offensive," which was a 6 versus 6 elimination game that let players blast snowballs at each other, instead of their usual weaponry. Players who were unable to unlock items from the Winter Loot Boxes get to keep them permanently.
No word yet as to whether the Diablo-themed in-game sprays and the "Diablo" player icon are a permanent addition to the game. Regardless, "Overwatch" and "Diablo" fans can enjoy the content for free.
