Sony Won’t Be Removing The 3.5 Headphone Jack On Its Future Smartphones Just Yet
Cris Xander JulianoSony won't be removing the 3.5 headphone jack on its upcoming mobile devices any time soon according to a report by Android Authority. Instead, the Japanese company will make efforts to improve its high-resolution audio the company is known for.
This was confirmed at a press briefing in Japan in December, stating it will maintain the existing headphone jack on its future smartphones.
Apple made the bold move of removing the standard size headphone jack on its iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus released in September 2016 with mixed reactions from users, although the wireless Apple AirPods do have its advantages. By Removing the standard size headphone jack, the manufacturer is able to save space inside its devices and by using the USB Type-C port, it allowed it to house a bigger battery and the devices itself to be thinner. The USB Type-C port also improves the quality of the sound of the devices; it can transfer data and can charge the device all through the same port.
A report by Uber Gizmo, stated that Sony has been popular for its devices' sound quality for a very long time now, therefore it's very capable of improving the audio with sticking to the 3.5 headphone jack. However, with Apple spearheading the drastic change on its smartphone's ports, perhaps Sony might eventually make the change as well if the demands for it by users are made. Additionally, Samsung is reportedly expected to make the same changes on their future devices, while other manufacturers might follow suit.
