An Initial Order Of 10 Million Samsung Galaxy S8 Units Has Been Made From Suppliers
Cris Xander JulianoA report by Forbes stated that an initial order of 10 million Samsung Galaxy S8 units has been made from suppliers as Samsung is looking to bounce back bigtime from the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco.
With those figures, the Galaxy S8 would be the biggest selling devices of the year as it will also equal the initial sales of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge from last year, which was also a record for Samsung. Perhaps the main goal of Samsung here is to target the people who acquired the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in 2015 with two-year contracts and keep them in the Samsung family.
Another possibility of potential market is the owners of the Galaxy Note 7, the fiery phablet released in September 2016. Samsung has offered discounts on the Galaxy S8 for those owners of the globally recalled Note 7. It is not confirmed though, how many of those discounts would be included in the 10 million units that were initially ordered. Also, it would be interesting to know how many Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge owners are willing to upgrade to the Galaxy S8.
According to other news, the official unveiling of the Galaxy S8 will not be at the Mobile World Congress that is scheduled in February 2017; instead it will be at a separate event in New York in March with the device not going on sale until April 18.
The investigations being conducted regarding the Galaxy Note 7 disaster contributed to the delay of the Galaxy S8 release. Although Samsung confirmed at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 that it will disclose its findings from that investigation very soon.
