The dragon-focused action-adventure game "Scalebound" developed as an Xbox One exclusive has now been called off. The game would have enabled players to control either a sword-wielding players or a fire-breathing dragon on epic quests. But with "Scalebound" cancellation, players will never be able to see it in action.

Previous "Scalebound" Delays

According to "Scalebound", developer Platinum Games' announcement on their official website, the supposed 2016 release date of the title has been pushed back to 2017. In addition, the game would have to be delayed since it has to meet high expectations. Alo, it needed more time as developers are perfecting its one-of-a-kind features and thrilling gameplay.

As next-generation console games get better and bigger, it seems that developers have consistently run into a delayed release. This was another alleged reason for "Scalebound" delay as well.

The game would have competed with some titles such as "Inside", "Quantum Break", "Gears of War 4" and "Below". As per the marketing manager for Microsoft Aaron Greenberg's statement, "Scalebound" launch's delay to 2017 will be a set up for its better success.

"Scalebound" Cancellation

Despite all the "Scalebound" extensive publicity, Microsoft Studios decided to end the title's development. It commented that it will rather focus on the remaining games of its 2017 lineup including "Sea of Thieves", "Halo Wars 2", "State of Decay 2" and "Crackdown 3".

Though its cancellation may be unexpected, but there were several signs that the game was bound to it given that "Scalebound" was initially announced in 2014. However, it was never present during game expos.

According to reports, Microsoft and Platinum games have parted ways for the project. Their relationship started to fall when several senior members of the title's development team took a vacation leave due to heavy workload of the project.

When they returned, Scalebound" was already behind schedule, combined with game engine's issues and overdue deadlines. It was then decided to have the title's cancellation. It is still uncertain if Platinum Games will revive the project in the future. But for now, the project has been ended.
