‘Stranger Things’ Actress Barb Cast As Ethel In ‘Riverdale’

“Stranger Things” proved to be a runaway hit on Netflix. Its 80s theme brought on nostalgic favorites, such as “The Goonies” and “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.” It is about a group of misfit kids who try to rescue one of their friends from a parallel universe and the Demogorgon.

One of the show’s young stars, Shannon Purser, turned out to be a surprising breakout actress. She played the supporting role of Barb, who was the best friend of Nancy, played by Natalia Dryer.

Barb was only featured in a handful of “Stranger Things” episodes. Shortly after she started to be on the show, she was dragged into what the kids would call “The Upside Down” and killed. After being killed off, both hers and “Stranger Things” fans took to the Internet to rally around her early death.

Despite fan theories that “Stranger Things” showrunners could still possibly bring Barb back, Purser’s schedule is now hectic with shooting schedules for “Riverdale.” The actress has recently been cast for the role of Ethel Muggs.

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Purser’s role as Ethel will last for, at least, three “Riverdale” episodes. The Ethel featured in the “Archie” comic books has a massive crush on Jughead, who will be played by Cole Sprouse. However, on “Riverdale,” Ethel has her sights and heart set on an entirely different character.

Also, one episode will feature Ethel teaming up with Betty Cooper, played by Lili Reinhart, and Camila Mendes’ Veronica Lodge. Together, they will plot their revenge on Reggie Mantle - who is a notorious bully and Archie’s biggest rival.

Although multiple new sources have reported that Purser is signed for three “Riverdale” episodes, “Archie” comic book readers are well aware that Ethel has a relatively strong presence. That said, it is highly possible that the “Stranger Things” actress will be called back to do more.
