Apple Fixes Bugs In iOS, macOS and Safari In Latest Round Of OS Updates
Ceage SottoApple has updated MacOS Sierra to 10.12.3 on Monday. Patching up 11 security vulnerabilities and addressing several graphics hardware issues in the latest 15-inch MacBook Pro laptop. The company has also released an iOS 10.2.1 update at the same time. The update fixed 18 security flaws found in WebKit, the foundation for the pre-installed Safari browser.
According to Apple, the new MacOS 10.12.3 update directly improves automatic graphics switching on the 15-inch MacBook Pro. It also included a fix addressed toward graphics issues on both the 15-inch and the smaller 13-inch model.
The same update patched nearly a dozen vulnerabilities, most of them critical. It includes a pair of kernel bugs reported to Apple by Google Project Zero.
The same thing can be said for iOS devices that were also given an update Monday. A 10.2.1 version was offered to iPhone and iPad owners. The update patched 18 vulnerabilities for the iOS platform. Thirteen were within WebKit -- the project that produces the rendering engine that powers Apple's internet browser, Safari.
Safari on MacOS was also updated to patch 12. 13 of the bugs were fixed in the iOS version. The browser update was labeled as Safari 10.0.3.
The update was packaged with the Sierra 10.12.3 update. It is made available separately to Mac owners running the older OS X Yosemite and OS X El Capitan, Sierra's predecessors.
The updates also affect the following devices. All models of the Apple Watch, the newest generation of the Apple TV. iPhone 5 models and newer, fourth-generation iPads up to the latest models, six-generation iPod Touches. Computers running MacOS Sierra.
Several tech experts have urged Apple users to update their devices. The updates tremendously improve the chances of disabling a security breach. Stay tuned for more news.
