Elon Musk Serious About Digging A Tunnel Underneath L.A. To Avoid Traffic

CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, Elon Musk, stated that he was serious about his plans to dig a tunnel underneath L.A. that would reduce his travel time between his office at SpaceX and LAX, according to a report by Tech Crunch. He posted on his Twitter account that he was making progress on his tunnel ambitions.

Musk first mentioned about this project after he was stuck in traffic in LA last December. The CEO frequently travels via LAX as he has many commitments at SpaceX, SolarCity and Tesla and splits his time between companies making his trips by plane a regular routine. This may sound like a joke to most people but Musk insists that he is serious about his plans.

According to USA Today, Musk says the tunnel will be across SpaceX headquarters, Crenshaw and the 105 Freeway, which is only five minutes away from LAX. However, Musk may encounter problems along the way.

The permits that are required to dig tunnels in the city alone can be difficult to get. Both spokespersons for Los Angeles International Airport and Los Angeles Department of Public Works decline to give any comments about Musk's plans.

In addition, Musk recently met with President Donald Trump to promote American manufacturing. This would mean that a large investment tunneling project like Musk's plan may be considered as part of the Trump administration's infrastructure spending, or the Hudson River rail tunnel project that would connect New Jersey to New York may also be considered.

Musk is a businessman that redesigned mobile payments with PayPal and has also done Space Exploration Technologies with SpaceX. People may or may not believe his plans about digging a tunnel, but he is taken seriously about a possible mission to Mars.
