Xiaomi Mi6 Release Date Delay Reportedly Caused By Samsung; Snapdragon 835 Chipsets Hoarded For Galaxy S8
Athena DeeXiaomi, just like Samsung, will not be present in this year’s Mobile World Congress. This news came as a surprise since the China-based tech giant was present at last year’s MWC to unveil the Mi5.
This year, however, an official from Xiaomi confirmed to Tech Crunch that the company’s bosses have decided to entirely skip the event. To date there has been no explanation provided regarding this decision. Still, the Internet is abuzz with speculations on what could have made Xiaomi decide to skip the event, delaying the launch of its next flagship device, the Xiaomi Mi6.
A report has pointed out that the Xiaomi Mi6 is being delayed because of supply-related issues of the Snapdragon 835 processor. Apparently, Samsung is hoarding the chipsets and reserving them for its upcoming Galaxy S8. LG, on the other hand, is moving on with its G6 developments and will be giving its device the older Snapdragon 861 chips.
Xiaomi reportedly has no interest of using the older processors for the Mi6. This could be why the company has opted to delay the device’s launch - primarily because its Korea-based rival first called dibs on the 835s.
One other possible reason why Xiaomi will be absent in this year’s Mobile World Congress is because of an executive shakeup within the company. VP Hugo Barra recently announced that he was leaving the Chinese tech giant in order to join Facebook for its Oculus VR efforts. His exit may have left Xiaomi with less leadership, which led to the company’s decision to skip MWC 2017 - and prolong the Xiaomi Mi6 release date all together.
Earlier reports have pointed out that the device will be out in the market by March of this year. However, considering that the Xiaomi Mi6 is relying on the availability of the Snapdragon 835 chipsets, it would appear that consumers need to wait a bit longer.
