Nintendo is doing its best to keep the Wii U launch a secret, but as days go by, that iron grip hold on the release date seems to be slipping. During a presentation meeting by gaming accessory-maker PDP at a GameStop managers' conference in Texas, USA, it was revealed that the Nintendo Wii U launch date will be on November 18, and not during the Christmas holidays as many might have guessed.
While PDP was showcasing peripherals coming out for the Wii U, a representative of the company made the mistake by saying the peripherals should be available ahead of the Wii U's launch on November 18. It is very unlikely for a peripheral company to make a big mistake in such a fashion. However, it is possible. So don't get too excited just yet fellows, you could be disappointed when reality pops open.
Nintendo is holding an event on September 13. The company is expected to reveal the release date along with the price and console specifications on that day. Our suggestion? Wait until then to hear what Nintendo has to say before over-preparing to camp out at your local game store.
What's interesting about the November 18 release date, is that it is a Sunday. Recent history has shown that Nintendo prefers to launch hardware major first party titles on a Sunday. This is evident with the GameCube and the Wii. November 18 is also the final Sunday before Thanksgiving and Black Friday. So if you think about it, it is very possible for the Wii U to take it to the competition on November 18
November is a busy month for gaming. If the company does choose to launch around that duration, it could be in for some serious competition. On November 4, Halo 4 for the Xbox 360 is making its way to retail stores, followed by Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on November 13 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
