'League of Legends' Latest News: Dev Blog Looks Back On 2016 & Hints Future 'LOL' Plans
Keisuke Akio"League of Legends" 2016 Champions had their own share of praises as well as criticisms in the past. A retrospective blog contemplative of these and more was recently released.
"League of Legends" Lead Champion Designer Mark Yetter released a /Dev blog in the community. It contains a reflective analysis of the big six champion releases in 2016. The article covers much of what went right and wrong with the newest faces on the Rift, says PVP Live. It also discussed the controversies and successes they have had over the year, as well as what the team could have done about them. The designer listed the Champ's Team goal for "League of Legends" for 2017.
One of their goals is to raise the bar. According to Yetter, there are significant times in "League of Legends" champion development where the standard is perpetually raised by developments in gameplay, visuals and theme. He said that this year they are pushing themselves to re-evaluate and develop on every aspect.
Aside from raising the bar, the designer also notes there will be big surprises in 2017. He said that one of the magic of a brand-new champion in "League of Legends" is that they can do anything with them. The total number of champions now is more than 130. However, Yetter said that they still have a few tricks up their sleeves.
In the blog, Yetter also pointed out that they would like to avoid the pro problem. He further defined this as a common issue. He said that their gameplay design is the construction of excessively complex or coordination-based kits that take over the pro scene and have to be nerfed into incomprehensibility for most normal players. He said that this year they are aiming for low skill floor, high skill ceiling. A feat, which he said, they do not normally hit.
