Sony took the wraps off its Xperia XZ Premium and Xperia XZs phones at the recently concluded MWC (Mobile World Congress). Although the handsets share top-notch cameras, one big difference is the use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, and Sony's offering seems to be coming along quite well as far as synthetic performance benchmarks are concerned. In fact, there's hearsay that it even outdid Samsung Galaxy S8 and the yet to be released HTC U 11 using the same SoC.
The Xperia XZ Premium was recently spotted on GeekBench benchmark site (via Gadgets 360), bearing model number G8141 and its listed score were 1943 and 5824 in the single and multi-core tests. This is higher than the Galaxy S8's single-core score of 1916 and the HTC U 11's 1912. In the multi-core test, the Galaxy S8 scored 6011 and HTC U 11 scored 6137.
A report from GSM Arena points to the possibility that Sony might have either changed the clock speeds of the SD835 in order to boost battery consumption, or the disparities come down to software. Nevertheless, the aforesaid numbers still exceed the ones the Xperia XZs achieved in the website's review. With Snapdragon 820 under the hood, the XZs scored 1724 and 3979 in the single-core and multi-score tests.
Sony Xperia XZ Premium Specifications
The listing alludes to the smartphone which packs a 1.9GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, coupled with 4GB of RAM under the hood and running the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat, which aligns with the Xperia XZ Premium. It's worth noting that benchmark scores are not spared from flaws and does not necessarily coincide with real-world performance.
As far as specifications are concerned, it can be recalled that the Xperia XZ Premium sports a 5.5-inch Triluminos HDR display with 4K, 2160x3840 pixels resolutions. The device is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC (Gigabit LTE speeds with X16 LTE modem), which is paired with Adreno 540 GPU and 4GB of RAM. There's 64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via microSD.
In terms of optics, Sony Xperia XZ Premium sports a 19MP main camera, which comes with the company's own Motion Eye camera system enabling super slo-mo videos at 960fps (frames per second). It features a 13MP front shooter with 1/3.06-inch Exmor RS sensor. The device's dimensions are 156x77x7.9mm and it weighs in at 195 grams.
