Google has partnered with DonorsChoose.org to offer a surprise to teachers this holiday season. Through DonorsChoose.org, the Samsung Series 5 Chromebook will be only for $99 - that's $150 off the already very inexpensive $249 price tag. But that is not all that the teachers will be getting - they will also get management and tech support along with the laptops.

DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that directly connects donors to needy schools. Teachers have to go the Donors Choose Web site and request a Series 5 Chromebook for their classroom. The request will be posted on the Web site for anyone to make a donation and support the teacher's request. After the funding goal is reached, the teachers will receive their Chromebooks from Lakeshore Learning, which is an exclusive fulfillment partner for the program with DonorsChoose.org.

"Schools that have adopted Chromebooks, however, have been able to bring the web's vast educational resources-- whether it's conducting real-time research or collaborating on group projects-- right into the classroom. Today more than 1,000 schools have adopted Chromebooks in classrooms," stated Google's official blog.

The special offer expires on Dec. 21, 2012, is only available to full-time public school teachers in the U.S., and is capped at 30 Chromebooks. For teachers to enter their request for Chromebooks, they will need to send their email address, name and number of Chromebook requests to DonorsChoose.org.

Although the funding process might seem to be a lengthy one, funding can come from a wide variety of sources, including family and friends. It is up to the teachers and classrooms themselves to get word out on the funding process. With a little bit of help from either the school itself or even local public officials to donate money, Chromebooks can be easily obtained for any classroom that fits the criteria.

The Samsung Series 5 Chromebook features a 12.1-inch LED display with 2GB of RAM with 16GB of flash storage. It might not look much but it is loaded with Web-friendly Google applications that educational institutions can use to their advantage. In fact, Chromebooks make the perfect researching tool for children to gain information and knowledge that they need for reports, projects, and exams.
