Apple began the New Year on a not-so-positive note as four unknown gunmen robbed the company's store in Paris. The attackers managed to get away with 40 boxes in a waiting van outside.
It is clear that this attack was pre-empted as it was very well coordinated. Probably, these attackers are fans of Ocean's Eleven, or they enjoy watching movies where men dressed in masks wield hand guns and rob a store.
According to the Telegraph, the gang of four managed to enter through a secondary entrance to the store where they pounced upon the janitor around 9pm. After tossing the janitor around and causing minor injuries to his body and spirit, the men went about their way cautiously throughout the store.
Their next victim would be a security guard who had no idea of what was going on. The robbers jumped him like an overexcited bunny, and then made off with 40 boxes of equipment in a waiting vehicle.
"They prepared their coup pretty well," said Christophe Crépin, a representative of the French police union Unsa. "Since the essential bulk of police forces were mobilised to patrol the Champs-Elysées, the thieves clearly profited from the opportunity to make their move."
Crépin also noted that it was easy for the thieves to escape owing to the large boulevards that are located near the store.
"A police presence is put in place every New Year's near the Eiffel Tower, Trocadero and Champs-Elyséees, but that doesn't intervene at all with the regular security on duty in other parts of Paris," said a police source to the Telegraph.
As it appears, the police were scattered everywhere that night, yet the four robbers were still able to rob the Apple store of 40 boxes of iPhones, iPads, and other gadgets in approximately 40 minutes. The entire robbery seems like an inside job - someone must have tipped the men of the secondary entrance and what time they should come along.
Could it be the janitor or the security guard? A modern day mystery needs solving; the police should get Scooby Doo and the gang on this as soon as possible.
