Apple has released the latest version of its mobile operating system for developers, and as many of jailbreak fans feared, the update has patched the latest untethered jailbreak.
The Cupertino-based tech company released iOS 6.1.3 beta 2 for developers just five days ago and now reports are coming in saying that with the release of iOS 6.1.3 beta 2, Apple has succeeded in killing the Evasi0n jailbreak.
According to a Forbes report, Team evad3rs' member, David Wang confirmed that iOS 6.1.3 beta 2 patches one of the five exploits on which Evasi0n was built.
"If one of the vulnerabilities doesn't work, evasi0n doesn't work. "We could replace that part with a different vulnerability, but [Apple] will probably fix most if not all of the bugs we've used when 6.1.3 comes out," Forbes quoted David Wang as saying.
If David Wang's analysis comes true when Apple releases iOS 6.1.3, users of iPhones, iPads, and iPods will have to make a very hard decision.
Apple users have been waiting for iOS 6.1.3 desperately as the update is said to be coming with a fix of passcode security bug. Now, if the update patches the Evasi0n untethered jailbreak, users will have to choose between security and the freedom of using Cydia tweaks.
Though the report of new iOS update patching jailbreak has been on the Web for more than 12 hours, the most prominent members of the jailbreak team, pod2g and planetbeing have not commented on the issue so far.
The jailbreaking team has always been very active in their task, no matter how tough the iOS becomes every time. And the hard work of these hackers had always seen a day of light.
There is no doubt that this team will once again get down to find some loop hole in Apple's latest mobile operating system, but there is always an easy way out.
If Apple is going to release iOS 6.1.3 just to fix the passcode bug and nothing major apart from that, evad3rs have an upper hand.
Since users will be shifting from iOS 6.1.2 to iOS 6.1.3 just for the passcode fix, evad3rs can go ahead and fix the bug in Evasi0n update for iOS 6.1.2 only.
With this move Apple users will not shift to iOS 6.1.3 and Evasi0n can also be kept unbroken in a way.
However, this move looks highly unlikely as the jailbreak team will also look beyond this update so they can target a major iOS like iOS 7 that might be in the final stage of making.
However, as iOS 6.1.3 is going to get a roll out very soon, you will have to make a choice between security and the jailbreak.
