A ZTE device with a ZTE Grand S-like design made an appearance in China and may be the first smartphone to rock Nvidia Tegra 4.
The new ZTE handset resembling the ZTE Grand S was spotted in China as the ZTE N988, as the device reportedly has no official name yet. This ZTE N988 apparently received approval from the Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center MIIT in China.
According to GSM Insider, the ZTE N988 is another flagship handset from the Shenzhen-based ZTE. The smartphone reportedly sports a 5.7-inch display reminiscent of the ZTE Grand Memo. The resolution lies at 1280 x 720 pixels and the 5.7-inch "phablet" reportedly packs a quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and backed up by 2GB of RAM. The processor could be either Qualcomm's Snapdragon or Nvidia's Tegra 4. If it's the latter variant, the ZTE N988 could be the very first smartphone rocking Nvidia Tegra 4.
Other reported specs of the ZTE N988 include a rear-facing camera of at least 8 megapixels and a 2-megapixel front shooter. Bluetooth, Micro SD card slot, USB (unspecified version), GPS, FM Radio are also on board, among other things.
The ZTE N988 runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS and comes in three color options: white, black and red. GSM Insider further notes that the new ZTE handset is an "ultra slim and a super light device," measuring 6.9mm in thickness and weighing 110g. The device itself has no carrier branding, which means it's not tailor-made for any specific carrier in China.
In terms of design cues, the ZTE N988 has a similar display size to that of the ZTE Grand Memo, but with a different design. From the rear it is very similar to the ZTE Grand S handset, but the camera lens and LED flash on the N988 are parallel with the back cover.
GDM Insider makes no mention of the handset's standard battery capacity, amount of internal storage, or any details regarding the ZTE N988's availability. Keep in mind that this is just a rumor for now, which means the purported ZTE N988 may or may not be the first Nvidia Tegra 4 handset.
