Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for Sony Xperia Z spotted in video

Shailesh Shrivastava

Last week we reported that the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update is on the way for the Sony Xperia Z smarpthones and now, the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean was spotted running on the device, but in a video.

The Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is shown running on Xperia Z in an 15 minute+ video posted on Xperia Blog. The video shows all the new features that come to Xperia Z with the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, but the main focus of the video seems to be the arrival of the new firmware.

The long video is accompanied by another 4 minute video that shows the performance of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean but of a leaked version.

The shorter video shows different lockscreen widgets that Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean brings to the dust- and water-proof Sony Xperia Z.

Sony has not said anything about the release of the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware update for the Xperia Z smartphone so far, but the leaked version's seamless performance shows that the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is almost ready for the Xperia Z.

The company was reported to be working on a new firmware last week. According to a report, Sony had tested two new firmware versions with PCRB which certified both the firmware versions for the Sony Xperia Z smartphone.

The new firmware versions were spotted on PCRB's website that showed that the two firmware versions (10.1.1.A.1.319 and 10.3.A.0.407) were certified for Sony's products C6606 and C6616 on June 4.

As both the versions had different series coding (10.1 and 10.3), we assume that the first series is being used for the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update and the second one was targeted at the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update.

The C6606 and C6616 are the codenames of the Xperia Z smartphone's two different versions that are going to head to the U.S. market.

The Sony Xperia Z comes with a 5-inch TFT display with a resolution of 1,920x1,080 pixels. The smartphone is equipped with an IP57 certification that makes it dust- and water-resistant, and it is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor clocked at 1.5GHz.
