The new BlackBerry Z30 just passed through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) with a green light for Verizon Wireless, suggesting it will hit the carrier soon.
The latest effort from the ailing Canadian company, the BlackBerry Z30, has already launched in the UK and it now seems that North America is next on the list.
A Verizon version of the handset has received FCC certification over the weekend, complete will support for the carrier's frequencies. With the FCC's approval, the smartphone should join Verizon's lineup soon enough.
BlackBerry has been struggling for a good while to remain relevant in an increasingly competitive smartphone market, after losing significant ground to its iOS and Android rivals. Even Windows Phone smartphones seem to be faring better than BlackBerry handsets, but that hasn't stopped the company from giving it another shot.
The BlackBerry Z30 is the company's latest attempt at a comeback and BlackBerry hopes it would be a success rather than repeat the resonating failure of the BlackBerry Z10, which dealt a $935 million hit to the company.
For those unfamiliar with the new smartphone, the BlackBerry Z30 sports a 5-inch display with a 720p resolution and a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus processor under the hood, along with a 8-megapixel camera for those who like to take photos with their handset. In other words, it will not be exactly a top-end smartphone considering that it packs last year's hardware, but it may stand a chance if the software it's running on has been properly optimized for it. The new BlackBerry Z30 runs on the latest BlackBerry 10.2 operating system, the company's update to the BlackBerry 10 (BB10) OS.
The BlackBerry Z30 should make its way to the U.S. soon enough, launching as the company's brand new flagship smartphone. It's all-touch just like the BlackBerry Z10, but the company likely hopes it would be more successful.
It remains unclear at this point just when the Verizon BlackBerry Z30 will make its debut, but it should make an appearance pretty soon considering that it's already available in some parts of the world. We'll keep you updated as soon as we learn more.
