Android 4.4 KitKat OmniROM nightly builds now available for 15 devices

Alexandra Burlacu

The folks over at OmniROM have released nightly KitKat builds for 15 Android devices, allowing users to get the latest software unofficially.

When Google releases a new version of Android, it rolls out to a select elite at first, such as Nexus and Google Play Edition devices, and it can take a really long time for some other devices to get it. For many Android users, custom ROMs are their go-to solution when they want to try out Google's latest.

OmniROM is a relatively new team, and it's latest drop brings Android 4.4 KitKat to no less than 15 devices. Here's the list, according to OmniROM's announcement:

  • Samsung Galaxy S2 (I9100G)
  • Samsung Galaxy S2 AT&T (SGH-I777)
  • Samsung Galaxy S3 (I9300)
  • Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE (I9305)
  • Samsung Galaxy Note (N7000)
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (N7100)
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 2 LTE (t0lte)
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 2 LTE AT&T (t0lteatt)
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 2 LTE T-Mobile (t0ltetmo)
  • Nexus 4
  • Nexus 5
  • Nexus 7 2012 3G
  • Nexus 7 2012 Wi-Fi
  • Nexus 7 2013 Wi-Fi
  • Oppo Find 5

OmniROM is quickly growing in popularity among Android fans and enthusiast. The developer team includes well-known developers Dees_Troy, Chainfire, and Xplodwild. The team aims to offer not only a solid and compatible ROM, but also a slew of custom features that are not available on AOSP or stock builds.

The unique features OmniROM brings include flappable quick settings, multi-window and multi-workspace modes, and other tweaks. The Android 4.4 build comes with several new features such as a new call notification that is now more discreet, per-app permission control in the Settings menu, and more. OmniROM details all changes in this blog post.

If you want to try out OmniROM's new Android 4.4 nightly build, head over to the Downloads page here and select your device from the list. There are some notable absences in the list for now, but OmniROM will likely add support for more devices soon. According to the team, more devices from HTC, Sony and others are currently in development to receive KitKat nightly builds.
