LG has officially announced that its G Flex curved-display smartphone is ready to make its global debut, launching in various countries this month.
The LG G Flex will land in Singapore this week, followed by Hong Kong next week, while other countries will get it later this month. LG said that its G Flex will launch in the U.S. and Europe sometime in December as well, but has yet to offer a specific launch date for either market.
"LG Electronics (LG) is introducing LG G Flex, the world's first curved flexing smartphone, to the global market starting in Singapore and Hong Kong this week. Key markets in Asia will also announce the availability of this innovative device before the end of the year, soon to be followed by other regions," LG announced in a press release (PDF) on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
"The LG G Flex has captivated early adopters everywhere as the first smartphone curved to follow the contour of the human face, made possible with the implementation of the world's first curved smartphone battery. With a durable plastic OLED (P-OLED) HD display, the G Flex also comes with a self-healing back cover that eliminates those day-to-day scratches, making it the first smartphone to incorporate such technology. These innovative features have earned LG's latest smartphone significant praise and accolades from major media outlets worldwide."
In terms of specifications, the LG G Flex sports a 6-inch flexible display with an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Unlike Samsung's Galaxy Round curved-display smartphone, the G Flex' screen curves vertically, from top to bottom, not horizontally. Under the hood, the new G Flex packs a powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit (GPU) and 2GB of RAM.
Other specs include a high-end 13-megapixel rear camera, as well as a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for self-shots and video calls. The LG G Flex ships with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, but is expected to receive an update to a newer version of Android in the near future.
The flexible-display LG G Flex will make its commercial debut in Singapore on Dec. 8, followed by a launch in Hong Kong on Dec. 13. LG is expected to offer more details shortly regarding the handset's launch in the U.S. and Europe. We'll keep you up to date as soon as we hear a specific date.
