The movies Arrival, Moonlight, La La Land, Patriots Day and Fences are now available on torrent. Every year, Screener's season happens usually at the same time following its 'legal' counterpart, Hollywood's awards season.

Screener's Season is the time of the year wherein pirated copies of DVD screeners begin to show up online. According to The Verge, DVD screeners are copies of movies mailed to industry insiders ahead of the Oscars and Golden Globe Awards.

It can be recalled that in December 2015 there were several movies which were leaked online ahead of their cinema screenings. These movies included Tarantino's The Hateful Eight, and Alejandro González Iñárritu's The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The Torrent Freak also reported that Creed, Legend, Bridge of Spies, Concussion, In the Heart of the Sea, Steve Jobs, Joy, The Danish Girl and Spotlight were also included and all these leaks had "DVDScr" in the title meaning it came from DVD screeners and therefore having an exceptional quality for an early release. The movies were all released by HIVE-CM8 except The Remnant.

This year, the number of movies leaked online decreased and only 5 DVD screeners are currently circulating online. Though not sure what may have caused this decline, reports stated that some pirate groups have become more cautious now about their release strategies. Take the HIVE-CM8 for example. HIVE-CM8 was the pirate group that released most movie leaks in 2015. At present, HIVE-CM8 stated that they are no longer releasing copies of films before they hit the theaters.

A possible reason of this year's 'quiet season' may be the possible sanctions pirates will receive once proven guilty. Notably, in February 2016, a 31 year-old who worked in the entertainment industry was arrested by FBI because of uploading DVD screeners' copy of The Remnant and The Peanuts Movie online.
