Nintendo Switch Reportedly Will Support Micro SDXC Memory Cards Up To 2TB; No StreetPass & Miiverse
Cris Xander JulianoNintendo recently confirmed that the hybrid console will support micro SDXC memory cards of up to 2TB, according to a report by Game Informer. This will certainly make up for the lackluster 32GB internal storage of the new handheld console, compared to the likes of PS4 and Xbox One, which have 500GB and 1TB variants under their hoods.
The only problem, though, is that a 2TB micro SDXC is not yet available. Currently, the largest capacity for a micro SDXC is 256GB and will cost $150 to $200 on Amazon. This is not exactly practical as it will significantly increase your total cost for the $300 Switch if you want the maximum capacity.
The good news, however, is that physical cartridges will be available and will not eat into the internal storage of your device. In addition, those physical cartridges will not require you to install game data, unlike PS4 and Xbox One.
In addition, a report by Slash Gear stated that the Nintendo Switch will neither use the StreetPass of the Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo's social network Miiverse, which would be a disappointment for most fans. A Nintendo spokesperson explained that the company is emphasizing the Switch to be a true home console, rather than a handheld gaming system.
StreetPass is a feature for the Nintendo 3DS that allows players to exchange game data when they meet other 3DS owners in person. As for social media, Nintendo will not use its own and will use other platforms, although the company did not specify yet which it is going to use.
