Halo 4's Limited Edition includes the War Games Map Pass, a season pass-esque subscription to map packs released for the shooter. The War Games Map Pack Access includes 9 maps and "three future competitive multiplayer maps" which players cannot download immediately, Microsoft said. War Games refers to the umbrella covering Halo's multiplayer modes: Spartan Ops and traditional multiplayer.
Microsoft confirmed it will be available individually and will cost users 2000 Microsoft Points ($25). This is a 15 percent reduction on the full price users pay if buying the maps individually -- usually around 1200 Microsoft Points each -- and players will also get in-game "Scanner" and "Strider" helmets and a "Falcon" in-game emblem.
Microsoft again confirmed that the Limited Edition includes 90 minutes of footage of the "Forward Unto Dawn" live-action series (compared to 15-minute episodes arriving once a week from October). Mini-movie aside, Microsoft revealed information on other previously unspecified contents.
Players receive early access to 6 out of 9 Specializations, previewed Wednesday. The abilities are unlocked when players reach level 50, the final level in Halo 4, and effectively offer end-game content. The announcement of the abilities drew ire from the community over the prospect of upsetting the balance in the game. However, 343 Industries later clarified the abilities' functions to address those fears.
A "UNSC Infinity Briefing Packet" includes an armor customization "schematic," a blueprint of the UNSC Infinity ship, and an "insight into what it means to be one of humanity's finest warriors: the Spartan-IVs". Master Chief is a Spartan-II, though his MJOLNIR armor received two upgrades -- in Halo 2 and Halo 4.
Various cosmetic bonuses are available. The "Recruit" and "Prime" in-game Spartan armor skins, an Assault Rifle "Prime" weapon skin, a "Prime" in-game emblem, the Recruit armor for Xbox 360 avatars, and a Cryo-Tube avatar prop. The latter refers to Chief waking up from cryo sleep 4 years after the events of Halo 3, heading to unknown planet Requiem.
Halo 4 releases November 6 on Xbox 360.
