'Splatoon 2' Could Definitely Fit Well Into Esports With Private Spectator Mode & LAN Play Features
Keisuke Akio"Splatoon 2" on Esports is a great possibility. The recently revealed Spectator View and LAN Play features of the upcoming game are substantial Esports material.
"Splatoon 2" on Esports
Despite the popularity of its Super Smash Bros. series in the fighting game community, Nintendo has remained silent for years to get into the professional side of competitive gaming. It appears, however, that the company is singing a different tune by integrating esports features directly into "Splatoon 2." This includes private spectating and the ability to have up to eight players competing over LAN.
These two "Splatoon 2" features are critical for top-level competition, especially for broadcast purposes. These also confirm Nintendo's new esports intents that were first teased during the Nintendo Switch reveal trailer. During the event, a part of the Nintendo Switch's reveal trailer showed two esports teams filing into an arena, picking up some Pro controllers and preparing for a round of "Splatoon" in front of a roaring crowd.
LAN Play
Nintendo threw two hints that "Splatoon 2," coming out this summer for the Nintendo Switch, will be esports-ready at launch. The first hint is that players can connect up to eight Switch consoles to play against each other over wired LAN. The play enables you to create local Private Battle tournaments without the need for an Internet connection. In addition, LAN connections are more reliable than Internet connections or even local wireless connections.
Private Spectator Mode
Alongside a LAN option, "Splatoon 2" will also feature a private spectator mode. In Private Battle Spectator View, two people can observe private battles on their own Nintendo Switch consoles as eight players paint their way to victory. According to Nintendo, these two act as camera operators in order capture all the action. Mashable notes that the camera operators can quickly switch between all eight players in the match. They can also see where they are at any time.
