Tech enthusiasts, who have been waiting with bated breath for the Surface Book 2, brace yourselves! You are in for a really long wait.

 Microsoft's high-spec'd laptop computer is highly unlikely to make an appearance in time for the company's spring event, which is slated to take place this month. Apparently, the Redmond-based tech behemoth is on the verge of unveiling a different hardware, instead.

On the brighter side, Microsoft might take advantage of the delayed launch for Surface Book 2 and further beef up the device's specs and features. According to a report from International Business Times, the Surface Book 2 might not arrive until spring 2017, just like the Microsoft Surface Phone.

Another report from ZDNet suggests the popular software maker is prepping to hold a hardware launch event, but the company is in no mood to take the wraps off its long-awaited Surface Book 2. Also, it remains to be seen whether or not the Surface Pro 5 tablet makes an appearance at the event.

As expected, this stirred conversations among tech pundits and zealous gadget freaks alike regarding what new hardware will Microsoft unveil at its spring 2017 event. There's word floating around that the company is currently working on a new 13.5-inch Surface Book laptop which sports a clamshell design, replacing the standard 2-in-1 form factor. It would be interesting to see if that's the hardware the company has been gearing up to unveil.

Multiple sources attributed the Microsoft Surface Book 2's delayed launch to Intel's Kaby Lake chip's late arrival. In fact, if rumors running rampant are anything to go by, the seventh-generation Kaby Lake chip is nowhere near completion, meaning, the Surface Book 2 release date is definitely not around the corner.

However, this didn't stop tech gurus from hazarding all sorts of guesses regarding the Surface Book 2's features. The device is said to offer VR (virtual reality) support and feature and upgraded Surface pen. Moreover, TechRadar reported that the Microsoft Surface Book 2 could boast an enhanced discrete GPU options.

Furthermore, the hybrid PC may boast higher resolution as compared to its precursors. Plus, removing the screen from the keyboard is expected to be less back breaking with the Surface Book 2.
