The latest addition to the Call of Duty franchise is performing very well at retail, even if the game is not performing the same on the PlayStation 3. Last week Call of Duty: Black Ops launched across the globe in a bid to take on the gaming industry.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 brought in $500 million in the first 24 hour of the game's availability, a first for any Call of Duty game. In the UK, the game debuted at the number one spot, booting Halo 4 to second place, while FIFA 13 fell to third. That isn't all, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 became the fourth largest game launch of all time in the UK, which is pretty impressive considering this generation of consoles is a dying breed.
It is expected that FIFA 13 will be capable of reclaiming the number one spot after the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 hype has died down, since FIFA games are generally more popular in the UK. Halo 4 should stick around in the top 10 list for a few months before making an exit when games like BioShock Infinite, the Last of Us, and Crysis 3 are launched in 2013.
Top 10 games on the UK list are as follows:
It seems that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will continue to dominate the UK game charts for some time. Come 2013, the only game that has a chance of breaking the records set by Black Ops 2, is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. This title could possibly debut on the Xbox 720, that's if rumors of a 2013 release date hold any merit.
