It was long rumored that after leaving Microsoft and the Halo series behind, Bungie would be focusing on another project in conjunction with Activision. Now, per reports, Bungie has confirmed that a game called Destiny is in development.
Many gamers and critics alike were expecting Destiny to be unveiled at the Video Game Awards; however, information of the game's story and concept arts were leaked to IGN followed by a confirmation from Bungie moments later. The leaked document is quite interesting; gamers could be in for a treat when Destiny is released in 2013.
According to the leaked document, the premise of Destiny is as follows: "Our story begins seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man's Golden Age. A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it's here for, but only that it's our protector. Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City. We are young 'knights' tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters and - eventually - overcoming it."
Bungie is aiming for a Star Wars feel with this new universe, which could mean Destiny may just be a Teen-rated game rather than a Mature one. If such is the case, not every gamer will be happy with that; however, if the game turns out to be splendid no one would care if the package said E for everyone.
Bungie has not confirmed rumors of Destiny being a free-to-play MMO First Person Shooter like PlanetSide 2. If it were, it would be a first for console gaming and could give a glimpse into what the future of gaming may be like.
Destiny's release date is said to be Spring 2013 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and possibly the Xbox 720 next-generation console.
