‘Diablo 3’ is not far away from being ported to a current generation console. Per reports, the game development team of Blizzard has confirmed that ‘Diablo 3’ is "up and running" on consoles.
It has been reported that the action-RPG title is currently running on unspecified consoles within Blizzard, and the developer's chief creative officer spoke to Polygon about the possibilities of a welcome port of the game to the current generation consoles, adding that the company is still not ready to talk about its ‘Diablo 3’ console plans.
"We're still kind of exploring it," Blizzard executive Rob Pardo, who was recently promoted from executive vice president of game design to chief creative officer, told Polygon. "We've got builds up and running on it. We're hoping to get it far enough along where we can make it an official project, but we're not quite ready to release stuff about it, but it's looking pretty cool."
Nonetheless, a probable console port might have to wait until after the game's next major expansion, according to lead designer Jay Wilson.
"The whole team is essentially working on the next big Diablo thing. A lot of that stuff will show up next year at some point," explained Wilson.
A Product Reviews report actually brings out the more brighter side of the probable port by stating that it is “no secret that developers are already in possession of next-gen dev kits."
"We have already seen numerous leaks stating that developers have gotten hold of the next Xbox system which is being codenamed ‘Durango’ and if that is the case – then Blizzard may also be in possession of one of these kits and have wasted no time in trying out Diablo 3 on the system.”
It also states that many gamers dream about playing “Diablo 3 from the luxury of the sofa and it looks like Blizzard is going to make this a reality in the near future.”
‘Diablo 3’ arrived earlier this year, and is free to users who sign up for the ‘World of Warcraft’ annual pass which is a yearly subscription to the popular MMO. Although the game experienced several server issues at launch, it went on to break sales records by selling 3.5 million copies within 24 hours.
