Recently, Digital Spy conducted a poll among its readers to find out which video game platform is the most popular in 2012. Both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 did well when the votes were cast, but only one took the top spot and bragging rights.
When the smoke cleared and the storm calm, it was revealed that the Xbox 360 came away with 33.3 percent of the votes, taking the number 1 spot ahead of the PlayStation 3, which was a close second with 28.9 percent.
The Xbox 360 taking the number 1 position in Digital Spy's best gaming platform of 2012 should come as no surprise to anyone, as the console has been doing very well throughout the entire year. Since January 2012 to November, the Xbox 360 has been the top selling console in the U.S. every month, and not even the Wii U was able to slow it down last month.
While both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 took the top spots in the poll, mobile platforms such as iOS with 9.3 percent of all votes, surprisingly took fourth place on the list behind the Wii U with its 10.3 percent and ahead of PC/Mac, which got 8.4 percent of total votes. Platforms like the Nintendo 3DS failed to make the top 5, a clear sign that smartphones are becoming more relevant than standalone handheld gaming devices.
Best Gaming Platforms
1. Xbox 360 - 33.3%
2. Playstation 3 - 28.9%
3. Wii U - 10.3%
4. iOS - 9.3%
5. PC/Mac - 8.4%
Over 25,000 participants took part in Digital Spy's poll, which is a good enough number to prove how popular the Xbox 360 is among consumers.
