While Square Enix’s upcoming action-adventure title Tomb Raider has already received a release date for March next year, the game’s much talked about multiplayer details remained shrouded in mystery that is until now.
Per new reports, some details have emerged regarding the game's multiplayer mode and it’s something that the developers hadn’t revealed before. Allgamesbeta bought the details to the forefront after spotting the link on the Game.co.uk Web site.
While these multiplayer details were removed shortly after a number of gaming sites took notice of them, fans can interpret the news however they want. It's highly possible that GAME took that information down maybe because it was flawed or obsolete. A possibility exists that maybe Square Enix told the site to take the information down so that they can formally announce multiplayer mode themselves.
“If GAME's information is true, then the Tomb Raider reboot would be the second game in the series to have multiplayer. The only other title with multiplayer was the downloadable game Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, which featured two-player co-op,” a Cinemablend report states. “The reboot would be the first with competitive online play, though.”
The upcoming game depicts Lara Croft's first real adventure when the ship she's traveling on, The Endurance, is destroyed by a storm. She and the rest of the crew wash up on a tropical island inhabited by a group of ruthless scavengers. GAME's new listing for ‘Tomb Raider’ says that the game's multiplayer will have players take on the role of the scavengers or Lara's shipmates in a host of modes.
Tomb Raider is scheduled to be released on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC early next year and the game promises to provide 12 hours of single player gameplay experience, which may sound a bit short to some, but that is completely expected since the developers decided to take a more cinematic approach this time around with the game’s missions and the gameplay.
The multiplayer details for the game are as follows:
