‘Halo 4’ may have been one of the most critically acclaimed games of the last year, but that doesn’t mean it has won over everyone in the industry. One such person who was not satisfied with the game, especially its story, is Cliff Bleszinski.
Per a recent VentureBeat report, former Epic Games designer Cliff Bleszinski revealed that he was a bit confused with what the story of ‘Halo 4’ was actually trying to accomplish.
“The story is still a little confusing, man. I gotta be honest. Once Halo 2 started introducing Gravemind and all these things and Forerunner stuff,” Bleszinski stated. “It’s one of those franchises where they do a really good job of a lot of that. I felt like Master Chief and Cortana were more believable than they ever have been.
“Cortana had these great little moments where she’s like, ‘You wouldn’t lie to a girl, would you?’ You’re just like, ‘Wow.’ That was a great, sincere little moment. But by the end of the game, I was like, ‘Wait, what is going on?’ I haven’t read the books.”
He also added that if he were to make another franchise, the goal would be to make it in such a way so that the player can still understand the story in a nutshell without having to read the books or play the previous games. Moreover, he said that ‘Halo’ fans are so absorbed in their own universe and franchise that sometimes they leave “a couple of the Muggles like myself behind.”
However, ‘Halo 4’ was not the only game to find itself on the receiving end of Bleszinski’s gun, as the other game that was brought into the discussion was ‘Battlefield 3,’ another mass fan favorite.
Bleszinski confessed that couldn’t really get into the game that is so widely played across the planet. He went on to say that the game’s campaign “felt like the very scripted kind of thing that I didn’t want to play. I also felt like it was the kind of game where, if you’re really going to get full enjoyment out of it, you have to play it on a high-end PC, which I do not have right now."
As far as the game’s multiplayer is concerned, Bleszinski stated that “it felt like everybody was camping with sniper rifles. I’d just walk out and die, walk out and die.”
