Custom ROM fans have reasons to cheer as their favorite Android Open Kang Project (AOKP) has moved quickly to release its first built off Android 4.2.2. The release brings us JB-MR1 Build 4 and has added nearly 22 supporting devices including Motorola DROID 3, DROID 4, DROID Bionic, DROID RAZR MAXX, the international GSM Motorola RAZR (XT910), the HTC One XL, and Sprint's version of the Galaxy Nexus.
"Wiping data is highly recommended as usual, of course it's a must if you're switching from another ROM or coming from 4.0.x / 4.1.x," AOKP team warns in its release note.
The Newly added devices are:
- HTC One XL (AT&T)
- Motorola Droid 4 (XT894)
- Motorola Droid 3 (XT862)
- Motorola Droid RAZR (VZW / XT912)
- Motorola Droid Bionic (XT875)
- Galaxy Nexus (Sprint)
- Motorola Droid RAZR (GSM / XT910)
You can find the complete list of changes in the official code-review page.
The Verizon and GSM versions of the Galaxy Nexus were already supported and according to the AOKP developer team, devices will be added only if the team members actually own them.
AOKP ROMs have always had a strong fan following as they are considered to be fast, stable and based on the AOSP release of Android 4.2.2.
The build focuses on bug fixes, adding more devices and merging the 4.2.2 changes and making the ROM function with those updates rather than adding new features. Head over to AOKP Team's Gerrit review page to get to know what actually went into those bug fixes. Watch out the official AOKP Web site as they will be adding builds linked to their site.
If you own a Motorola handset on Verizon, this is your lucky build. Terming the build as 'fast and stable' an XDA member Surdu Petru has listed out the updated change log for AOKP 4.2.2 for Motorola Droid RAZR XT910 GSM version. The improvements include:
- Fixes USB issue.
- Added extra governors.
- Overclock/underclock and control voltage.
