The new Nexus 7 will finally hit the UK on Aug. 28, and this time it's official: the news comes straight from ASUS, the tablet manufacturer.
This means that all the fuss regarding the new Nexus 7 UK release is finally over, after lots of rumors, speculation and various dates. So far, speculated dates for the tablet's launch in the UK included Sept. 13, Aug. 29, Aug. 28, then Aug. 24.
It seems that Aug. 28 is the big day after all, as ASUS officially confirmed it. The company held a press event in London and showed a very clear slide, noting the specs of the new Nexus 7, as well as its release date and price for the UK market.
The new Nexus 7 will make its UK debut at exactly midnight on Aug. 28, which means that some stores will likely choose to stay open for longer than usual to welcome eager customers who want to be the first to get the new slate.
The tablet will be available in the UK in both its 16GB and 32GB storage configurations. The 16GB model will sport a £199 price tag, as previously rumored, while the higher-capacity, 32GB variant will cost £239.
While UK consumers still have a bit longer to wait for the new Nexus 7, at least the launch date isn't in mid-September, as rumored at one point. Other European countries may get the new Google tablet soon after it goes on sale in the UK, but no specific details are available at this point.
Lastly, ASUS is also preparing to launch its MeMO Pad HD 7 and MeMO Pad FHD 10 in the UK. The 7-inch tablet will make its debut on Sept.1 for £129, continuing ASUS' tradition of offering cheap MeMO Pad 7-inchers for budget-conscious tablet shoppers. The 10-inch MeMO Pad FHD 10, meanwhile, will hit UK stores on Sept. 6, sporting a £299 price tag.
Between the new Nexus 7 and two ASUS MeMO Pad offerings, potential tablet buyers in the UK have some good options to choose from. The wait is almost over.
