HTC is widely expected to unveil a HTC One Max phablet this fall and challenge the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the upcoming device has leaked again.
This time, the leaked image of the purported HTC One Max puts the phablet side by side with the HTC One smartphone to give us a better idea about the size of the device.
HTC has not officially announced plans to launch such a phablet, but all signs point in this direction. Having just one flagship smartphone is no longer sufficient anymore for the highly-competitive smartphone market and companies are always trying to find new ways to get consumers' attention.
There is a growing trend for Mini devices, i.e. smaller versions of flagship smartphones. Samsung started this trend with its Galaxy S3 Mini and continued it this year with the Galaxy S4 Mini, and HTC already boarded this train with its HTC One Mini. The other growing trend is for larger devices, the so-called phablets, and again Samsung is responsible for setting this in motion.
While at first many wondered whether massive smartphones would really catch on, it is now clear that they are growing momentum and increasingly more phone manufacturers are creating phablets.
A HTC One Max Android phablet has longed been rumored and has leaked online before, but the latest leak allows for a size comparison with the flagship HTC smartphone.
Moreover, the newest leak also seems to confirm that the HTC One Max would boast a fingerprint scanner, a feature that has received much hype since Apple announced its new iPhone 5S with Touch ID.
The newly-leaked images were spotted on Chinese social network Weibo and made their way to more familiar shores via Mobileaks. According to the user who posted the photos, the device in question may in fact be a prototype, potentially China-bound.
The images don't reveal much else new, but they do help us get a better idea about how big the HTC One Max phablet would be. In terms of design, the new leak seems to match up with earlier speculation, including rumors about the fingerprint scanner below the camera and the three-dot connector on the right.
So far, rumors indicated that the upcoming HTC One Max would sport a large 5.9-inch LCD display and may pack the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, paired with 2GB of RAM. The HTC One's most popular features should be on board as well, including BoomSound, UltraPixel camera, BlinkFeed and more. The phablet is expected to run on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and HTC Sense 5 or even Sense 5.5.
Without official confirmation, however, it's all in the rumor state for now so it is advised to take everything with a healthy dose of skepticism.
