'Mass Effect: Andromeda' World Keeps Its Ground In Reality, Pushes Frostbite Engine Boundaries
Jazz RosinThe upcoming action RPG "Mass Effect: Andromeda" will push the boundaries of the Frostbite Engine, Bioware declared in an interview.
It has been over two years since the fourth "Mass Effect" title is revealed, to the delight of many fans of the series.
Bioware talked about their upcoming title in the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine, saying that the developer has utilized the Frostbite engine to the fullest in "Mass Effect: Andromeda," according to The Daily Star.
During the interview, Bioware Creative Director Mac Walters said that the studio is "pushing the boundaries of what Frostbite can do and what Mass Effect can do."
"The quality of the character animations is at an all-time high for us," Walters told Official Xbox Magazine, "and that's great because it means expressiveness, emotion and a connection with the player."
also explains how the studio used the Frostbite engine to create the "Mass Effect" world, while "keeping its ground in reality."
The director said that the studio took a few cues from real-life caves and some other "amazing things on Earth," and tweaks them a bit to make it more at home with the alien theme.
"We use all that inspiration, because you need to balance the relatable with the original," Walters said. "I think that's usually the process that we go through - we start with something grounded, then push it a bit further until we get something unique."
The Frostbite engine is exclusive to publisher Electronic Arts. Apart from "Mass Effect: Andromeda," other upcoming games like "Battlefield 1" and "FIFA 17" are also utilizing EA DICE's in-house game engine.
"Mass Effect: Andromeda" is originally slated for a Holiday 2016 release date, but was pushed to the first quarter of 2017. The game will be launched on the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
