Next iOS Jailbreak Post-Evasi0n Already In The Works?

Alexandra Burlacu

Apple killed the popular Evasi0n jailbreak with its iOS 6.1.3 update, but it seems it won't be long for another jailbreak to kick in.

As it turns out, a well-known hacker apparently found enough exploits to create a brand new jailbreak for iOS 6.

Redsn0w launched a tethered iOS jailbreak as well, but that one is limited to specific Apple devices. It works with the new iOS 6.1.3 update, but the software is only compatible with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and the fourth-generation iPod touch. The iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 and fifth-generation iPod touch are out of the question with this new tethered jailbreak.

Notorious hacker and Chronic Dev team member p0sixninja apparently found that Apple might have killed the Evasi0n jailbreak, but it still left enough vulnerabilities unpatched in the latest iOS update.

P0sisninja, a.k.a. Joshua Bell, said Friday, March 29, that he might create the next jailbreak entirely by himself. According to him, Evad3rs are still around, but he found all the necessary exploits on his own in the past few months.

Idownloadblog, meanwhile, duly notes that although p0sixninja claims to be very close, he doensn't seem to have the next iOS jailbreak just yet.

"And if he has one," idownloadblog points out, "there's no telling when or if he will release it."

Truth be told, iOS 6.1.3 just came out on Tuesday, March 19, and iOS 7 is still months away, which means that even if p0sixninja did have the next iOS 6 jailbreak he could definitely take his time to release it.

"Still, between p0sixninja's findings and the evad3rs' work, the future for jailbreaking has never looked brighter," reckons idownloadblog. "And that's great news, considering how bleak things looked earlier this year. Until pod2g and team stepped up, we didn't know if we'd ever see iOS 6 jailbroken."

All in all, the next iOS jailbreak sounds quite exciting, especially since the iOS 6.1.3 left lots of people crying over their Evasi0n jailbreak. If p0sixninja found enough vulnerabilities left unpatched, the next iOS 6 jailbreak could be just around the corner.
