Asus ROG GR8 II: A New Small But Powerful VR-Ready Gaming PC

Asus recently revealed a new powerful gaming PC -- the ROG GR8 II. It is a compact model that claims to be the world's smallest VR-ready machine.

The Asus ROG GR8 II is about the size of a console, but with full desktop power. It is the successor to the company's previous machine Asus GR8.

These machine components meet, or even exceed, the current VR requirement. According to Digital Trends, this Asus ROG GR8 II offers midrange components. It includes the seventh generation Core i7 and i5 CPUs, a DDR4 RAM up to 32GB and the NVidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU.

To ensure that it performs well in VR, the Asus ROG GR8 II is fully tested with the Oculus Rift VR system. It also has Dual HDMI ports and a DisplayPort. Thus, even without VR, users can achieve a surround gaming experience with up to three displays.

With the SupremeFX running in conjunction with Sonic Studio III software, which can route audio for streaming, the Asus ROG GR8 II audio quality is enhanced. For storage, it has M.2 PCIe solid-state disk or SSD with another 2.5-inch bay to add additional drive options.

A good networking option is also featured in the Asus ROG GR8 II; from a Gigabit Ethernet port to 802.11ac Wi-Fi with MU-MIMO support. Various ports for plugging also available, namely two USB 3.1 ports, Type-C and Type-A and four USB 3.0 ports.

According to Asus, the ROG GR8 II will mostly succeed, with a significant small and portable size accompanied by a big increase in power. Weighting only four kilograms, the company touts this machine as the smallest VR-ready system that money can buy.

The company hasn't announced the schedule for the release of the Asus ROG GR8 II as of this writing. So expect more details to come about this machine over the next months.
